Spring Storm Tips

As most anyone in Middle Tennessee already knows, we’re deep into tornado season. Tornadoes may strike quickly with little or no warning. They can appear nearly transparent until dust and debris are picked up or a cloud forms in the funnel. That’s why it’s most important to pay attention to local news and weather alerts to always be prepared.

Prior to a storm, NES reminds you to:

  • Learn how to shut off gas, water and electricity to your home in the event of an emergency. This could make a world of difference in reducing the overall damage.
  • Assume downed lines are live and report them to 911 immediately. Bright blue- or green-colored flashes near the ground can indicate snapped power lines, though these signs are not always prevalent.

Looking Ahead to Warm Weather

We understand extreme weather poses a financial burden to everyone. As temps begin to rise, we want to help you stay cool and better manage your bill.

Quick actions anyone can take include:

  • Keep windows and blinds closed on the sunny side of your home and open on the shady side.
  • Change and clean air filters once a season, just like the mechanic does in your car during an oil change. This will help your HVAC run more efficiently and keep your electricity bill down.

Have you been a residential customer for more than 12 months? Consider Balanced Billing to maintain a consistent bill throughout the year, based on your billing history. This will help you better manage your finances when bills typically tend to spike.
