Pigeons Cause Problem at NES Substation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Pigeons are creating a potential problem at a Nashville Electric Service (NES) substation, and crews are hoping a loud sound cannon will scare the birds off. The pigeons are roosting at NES’ Central Substation which provides electricity for a third of the downtown Nashville area. NES is proactively trying to avoid possible power outages by using the sound cannon which produces a loud noise similar to firecrackers and disrupts the nesting pattern of birds that roost at the substation.

Energy Savers Workshop Attendance Up 70 Percent

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Twenty-six households attended last month’s Neighborhood Energy Savers Workshop held at the Donelson-Hermitage YMCA. This free workshop offered by Nashville Electric Service (NES) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), was the first in the summer series of workshops being held in June, July and August.

June attendance was up 70 percent from 2013 with the successful launch of NES’ summer “Be Cool” campaign, urging customers to attend a workshop to learn easy, energy-efficient improvements because “high energy bills are lame, but you can be cool.”

Local High School Goes Solar through Green Power Providers

Ensworth High School recently completed the installation of a solar power roof located on the school’s theater. Ensworth is a participant in the Green Power Providers program, in which TVA buys back the solar electricity they generate. Green Power Providers is one of several renewable energy programs that NES partners with TVA to offer in order to harness the power of natural resources like the sun and wind.
